New music from Mariah Carey is on its way!
On Sunday night, Carey shared a snippet of her new single “I Don’t” on her social media channels. Produced by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, the song will serve as Carey’s new breakup anthem.
“Somewhere in another life / We stole a moment in time / Gave you everything that you needed / I was even down to repeat it / Said you would always be mine / Fed me nothing but lies I was so done, I admit it,” Carey sings in the first verse.
“I Don’t” samples Donell Jones’ 1999 hit “Where I Wanna Be” and also contains an interpolation of the lyrics. “Cause when you love someone / You just don’t treat them bad /You messed up all we had / Probably think I’m coming back / But I don’t, I don’t,” Carey sings on the chorus.’
In a clip posted on Facebook, Carey revealed the song was inspired by her recent breakup with her billionaire fiancé James Packer.
“Ever since the tour wrapped, I took some time just to process my feelings,” Carey said. “I started writing this song to express what I had been going through. If you’re not getting the love you need from someone you’re supposed to be in a real relationship with, then why remain in that situation?”
“I Don’t” is scheduled to premiere worldwide this Friday, Feb. 3.
