Janet Jackson will be honored with the most prestigious award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards. The ground-breaking entertainer will receive the Icon Award, which recognizes an artist’s cultural impact — both inside and outside of the music industry.

Jackson is quite familiar with the Billboard Music Awards with 10 trophies to her credit. She won eight awards at the 1990 ceremony for her album, Rhythm Nation.

Not only will The Velvet Rope artist collect her Icon Award, she will also perform live at the show. It will mark her first televised performance in nine years.

This summer Jackson will be headed back on the road for 11 additional State of the World tour dates. She will also hit a festival run at Essence Festival, Panorama Festival and Outside Lands.

The 2018 Billboard Music Awards will include performances from Ariana Grande, BTS, Dua Lipa, Camila Cabello and others. Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, the awards show will air on Sunday, May 20 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
