Timothy Bloom has never been afraid to be controversial. The singer-songwriter pushes the envelope in his cinematic video for “Burden’s Song.”
The simplistic yet powerful visual follows Bloom (a prisoner) in a desert, who is being held against his will by an unruly sheriff.
The painful message behind the video paints a similar picture from years ago that is still present today. No matter how many obstacles we overcome, there’s always something greater holding us back.
Bloom drew inspiration for the song and video from Nina Simone, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “[Something] Nina Simone [said] in an interview spoke to my heart,” he shared in the video caption. “‘Artist should write about the times.’ This is my present moment in time.”
“Burden Song” serves as the lead offering from Bloom’s upcoming summer release, Blood Note. The LP marks Bloom’s first project since 2016’s The Beginning, which included “Work it Out.”
