Balancing life as an artist, a wife and a mother are just three things that help define Marsha Ambrosius and the narration of Nyla, her third studio album, out today.
The 16-track album, which is named after her daughter, takes listeners on Ambrosius’ journey through trials and tribulations as she comes into her own sense of humanity. When people listen to the album, that features a guest appearance from PJ Morton, they’ll bear witness to “the journey that it took to get to where I am,” Ambrosius shared to ABC Radio.
Half of Nyla, according to Ambrosius, was recorded before meeting her now husband and the birth of their daughter. In a way, the album is a snapshot of the life she used to live before her world started becoming more concrete. Conversely, Nyla is also a rich tapestry of content to define all of the lessons and memories she’s soaked up after the huge pivots in her life.
As Nyla, the follow-up to 2014’s Friends & Lovers, begins to marinate in the mind’s of people around the world, Ambrosius will take her talents across the country as she joins Maxwell on his 50 Intimate Nights Tour. The concert series kicks off on September 27 in Richmond, Va., and will wrap up on December 9 in New York.
