After promising her fans new music earlier this month, K. Michelle keeps her word and debuts a new song titled “Save Me.”
Over a minimal production, the Memphis native pours her heart out as she reflects on a failed relationship. With lyrics like, “Always giving my all to you / Broke me down to be here for you,” K. Michelle realizes she gave her all in the relationship and got nothing in return. Although she is in pain from all of this, she knows it’s best for her to move on. “I hope you’re happy without me / But the truth is I’m tired of falling for you,” she sings.
K. Michelle teased the song on social media prior to releasing it. She made it clear, though, that isn’t an official lead single from her upcoming album. “The pre-single! You all will get the official single right after that,” she tweeted to fans on November 5.
It’s interesting to point out that “Save Me” has been released via Chase Landin LLC/Entertainment One, which only leads us to presume that K. has been freed from her contract with Atlantic Records. In the past, she expressed her frustration with being signed to the label, citing that she wanted to experiment with other genres (particularly country-inspired music). “I need the freedom to really get into the music that I love,” she told Billboard in a 2017 interview.
K.’s next album will follow 2017’s Kimberly: The People I Used to Know, which included guest appearances from Chris Brown and Jeremih.
