Nearly two after the release of his debut album GMFU (Got Me Fucked Up), Adrian Marcel makes his return to music. “Slow Burn,” is the first single from his forthcoming album 98th.
On the tender mid-tempo track, Marcel pledges to his lover that he won’t do treat her like men have in the past. He insists she can “relax her mind” as they take their time building their blossoming love on a stronger foundation.
According to his official website, 98th will be released soon through his new independent label Third Voice Music Group. Marcel will also serve as the executive producer for the new work. GMFU, his last album, dropped following his departure with Republic Records. Though the LP was slated for 2015 release, Marcel mentioned to us it gave the music new meaning.
“I think now GMFU has a real purpose that made sense,” he told Rated R&B in 2017. “It was almost to me like — and I’m not at all comparing it to Confessions — but what that album at the time stood for for Usher and the timing of what was going on in Usher’s life and what he came from before….and for me, that’s what it was. It was like, nah this is so perfect because now it’s not a broad statement. Now, this is very personal.”
Aside from music, Marcel will be hitting the silver screen in June. He is set to portray James DeBarge in TV One’s The Bobby DeBarge Story.
