Jesse Boykins III has fulfilled his promise of releasing new music. After teasing new sounds on January 1, the Brooklyn native has shared “You’re Gonna Need It,” his collaboration with producer lophiile of Radiant Children.
The song leads with gentle piano chords, transitioning into a lush and mellow symphonic track about an unappreciative partner in a relationship. On the first verse, Boykins softly utters, “Nah, you never ask for full story / You just want all the fake glory / Don’t face all your problems, lookin’ from the outside / You gotta read through the blurry.”
“You’re Gonna Need It” appears on lophiile’s To Forgive EP, which arrived this month. As for Boykins, he doesn’t plan to his fans hanging without more new music. He assured them on Twitter that he’s releasing a new track in March. It will serve as his first offering since his Bartholomew EP, which dropped back in 2016.
Boykins and his band are gearing up for a concert on March 1 in Los Angeles at the Moroccan Lounge. Tickets are available now on Ticketfly.
