H.E.R. is definitely on the go this year. The Grammy winner has been announced as a performer at the 2019 Roots Picnic. Ari Lennox, Queen Naija, Asiahn, and Leven Kali are also booked to perform at The Mann Center at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia.
The 12th annual event will produce endless jam sessions, including a mix titled Raphael Saadiq vs. Soulquarian, curated by Saadiq and Questlove. Aside from other on-stage entertainment, the concert-goers will experience a special 20th-anniversary performance by The Roots, whose Things Fall Apart album turned 20 last month.
“We finally have a Roots Picnic in the Park,” the Roots manager Shawn Gee and President of Live Nation Urban said in a statement. “The vision 12 years ago was always to provide an all-day musical and cultural experience in Fairmount Park. Black Thought, Questlove and I grew up spending our Sunday afternoons at the Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park watching Philly DJs spin, and enjoying the vibe and the culture. It’s a great feeling to be able to come full circle and bring the Picnic to Fairmount Park, I think it’s a big WIN for the city.”
The Roots Picnic will be held on June 1, 2019. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 15 at noon EST on the official website.
In other live event news, H.E.R. will be making her rounds at Coachella in April. She will also take the stage at the 2019 Essence Festival in July.
