Cheers to Ro James!
After spending 27 weeks on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart, “Excuse Me,” the flashy songster’s latest single, has reached the top 10. The mellow track is James’ second top 10 single on this chart, following his number one single “Permission.” The latter track ruled at its peak for nine weeks in 2016. It also maintains a strong presence on Urban Adult Contemporary radio.
James released “Excuse Me” as the lead single off his upcoming sophomore album back in August 2018. A month later, the song debuted on the airplay chart at No. 27. Following his tour stint with Jessie J, James dropped a disturbing visual to accompany the record.
James plotted to release the follow up to his 2016 debut ELDORADO in November 2018, however, the album wasn’t materialized for public enjoyment. After releasing his Smoke EP last spring, he spoke candidly to Rated R&B about his future full-length release.
“ELDORADO was my first time going to the label saying, ‘I don’t want to do this, this is who I am’ and accepting their advice too, so we can create something timeless,” he said. “My next album is the same process — growing with people who now are a part of your trajectory, your growth and who you are. I had a concept from the jump but the thing is finding the sound that matches the concept. It was definitely harder but I enjoyed the process.”
As “Excuse Me” continues to rise higher, we hope James’ untitled second album gets the green light. We are ready!
