Khalid is all for the arts. The Grammy-nominated singer uses his star power and love for music and fine arts to launch The Great Khalid Foundation in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.
The mission of the non-profit organization is to impact the lives of children in underserved communities through the power of music. By creating an atmosphere of support and freedom for kids to dream big, The Great Khalid Foundation will promote music education programs, award scholarships, and collaborate with community partners to invest in the lives of children and their future.
“I create a foundation that supports music & schools in underserved communities. It starts in El Paso and my goal is to provide resources and help bridge education and prominent music programs in the city,” said Khalid in a press statement.
The Great Khalid Foundation has already awarded $10,000 Performing Arts Scholarships to three high school seniors for the 2019-2020 school year to be applied towards tuition expenses.
Although the program is in its beginning stages, Khalid has high expectations for the future.
“Everything is super new right now and it’s all a work in progress but you gotta start somewhere!,” wrote Khalid on Instagram. “Manifestation is super important! One day I WILL open up a school, but I gotta believe in myself.”
All future applicants must have a 3.5 GPA or above. They must submit an official acceptance letter into a Performing Arts College or University program, in addition to a video performance and a written essay.
