Mary J. Blige has partnered with MAC Cosmetics for a limited edition Love Me Lipstick collection to celebrate the brand’s 25th anniversary. The French Silk lipstick, priced at $19, is available online in the U.S. and Canada.
“It’s the perfect time to do something like this,” Blige told PopSugar. “And here we are today doing this lovely [collaboration] and I chose the Love Me line because that’s exactly what I’m doing right now. Loving me.”
This is Blige’s third time working with MAC. The last time she collaborated with the brand was in 2002 for its Viva Glam campaign. She explained that her makeup choice has changed since then.
“The last time I partnered with MAC, I was not really about nude lip,” she revealed to PopSugar. “I was always in a burgundy lip or black lipstick and a pound of makeup. Now I’ve evolved and grown into a place where I feel comfortable that I don’t have to wear a pound of makeup every day.”
MAC isn’t the only one celebrating, though. Blige’s iconic sophomore album, My Life, also turns 25 this year. The album birthed classics like “I’m Goin’ Down,” “Be Happy,” “Mary Jane (All Night Long)” and the title track, to name a few. TIME Magazine listed My Life as in its top 100 most influential musical compilations of all-time.
Blige will celebrate My Life in style at the 25th annual Essence Festival, which will be held from July 5-7 in New Orleans.
