Mary J. Blige is the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at this year’s BET Awards.
According to E! News, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul will receive royal treatment at the 19th annual award show taking place later this month.
Blige, who is named Billboard’s most successful female R&B/hip-hop artist of the past 25 years, has won nine Grammys that span across four distinct genres. Since her groundbreaking 1992 debut What’s the 411, Blige’s soulful voice and undeniable impact on music has changed the way the industry viewed artists then and now.
At the 2018 Oscars, Blige made history as the first person to score nods for a performance and original song in the same year, for the same film (Mudbound).
With a mysterious new project scheduled to drop sometime this month, it would be fitting for Blige to premiere some tunes at the 2019 BET Awards. Still, the pressing question at this moment is, who will be invited to perform for her tribute?
Leading up to her Lifetime Achievement Award honor, Blige will perform on night-one of the BET Experience alongside H.E.R. and Summer Walker.
In July, the singer will hit the stage at the 2019 Essence Music Festival, before going out on the road for her co-headlining tour with Nas.
Hosted by Regina Hall, the 2019 BET Awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 23.
