Just three years after Prince’s death, fans will have a chance to hear some of his unreleased songs. Variety reports the icon’s estate has agreed for Warner Bro. Records and Tidal to release a compilation of 15 songs titled Originals.
Starting on June 7, which would have been his 61st birthday, Prince’s Originals will stream exclusively on Tidal for a two-week window period. On June 21, the album will be made available on all digital and streaming partners, as well as physical on discs through Warner Bro. Records.
On July 19, Originals will make its vinyl arrival, which will include two, 180-gram LPs. A limited edition deluxe CD and two LP formats will be available as well.
Handpicked by Troy Carter, the entertainment advisor of Prince’s estate, the 15-track album will contain 14 never-before-heard demos of hit records that Prince penned himself for his protégés the Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, the Family, and more. The impending work will also include the first cut of Prince’s 1984 version of “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The song later became famous by Sinéad O’Connor in 1990.
In more-Prince related news, it was reported back in December 2018 that an untitled musical, featuring classic songs from Prince’s impeccable discography, is in the works.
Additionally, Ava DuVernay is working with Netflix on a Prince documentary while another is coming to UK’s Channel 4.
