Dev Hynes, whose moniker is Blood Orange, is joining the music release pool this Friday to drop his new mixtape, Angel’s Pulse.
The forthcoming work features no outside contributors with Hynes as the brains behind the entire composition and production operation. In a nonchalant fashion, he labels Angel’s Pulse as “an epilogue” to his 2018 release Negro Swan, which appeared at No. 3 on Rated R&B’s top 25 albums of 2018.
“I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually, this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out,” said Hynes in a statement.
While Angel’s Pulse is dubbed as a mixtape, Hynes declares that he “put as much work and care into it” as he did his previously released albums. Contrary to the energy put into this new release, Hynes has never released a project less than a year after its predecessor.
He attributes the timeline change to being more mature and understanding that “life is unpredictable and terrifying.”
Hynes will support Angel’s Pulse on tour with Tyler, The Creator this fall. He is also playing select shows across the world, including the North Sea Jazz Festival on the same date as the arrival of Angel’s Pulse. See additional show dates and ticket information here.
