Toni Romiti doesn’t have the time nor the energy to feed someone’s ego. The Chicago-born artist makes it very clear on her new single titled “Need Me.”
On the candid track, Romiti confronts her soon-to-be-ex about his manipulative ways that have become problematic for their relationship.”Let’s keep it simple / Send me a signal / Do you wanna be single? / You know I need to know,” she sings.
In a press statement, Romiti explained why the song is so special to her. “It speaks about how one partner’s fragile ego can ruin an entire relationship,” she said. “Oftentimes, one partner is only using the other to make themselves feel better. It’s manipulative, and it’s not a real relationship. It’s just a narcissist trying to fill the void.”
She hopes the song will inspire her fans to leave a toxic relationship. “I want my listeners to know that they deserve better than a relationship like that,” she said. “Break free, and let that ego-maniac be single.”
“Need Me” follows Romiti’s track “Heard It All Before,” which released in May. Prior to that, she dropped two other songs earlier this year: “Envy Me (Remix)” in April and her rendition of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” in February.
In March 2018, Romiti released her debut EP Tomboy via RCA Records. Since then, she has parted ways with the label. She is currently independent.
