With a decade-plus career of adventurous sounds, John Legend continues to evolve and grow.
The EGOT gentleman’s humid new single “Bigger Love” is proof positive to his step forward.
The best part of this island-flavored record is the multiple layers of genre influences. The infectious chorus is pop-oriented, while the backbeat dips its toe in the Latin dance pond. It also manages to inject some gospel-tinged harmonies towards the ending.
Still, Legend’s richly textured vocals rise above it all, as he coos about him and his lover dodging the wrath of naysayers tongues who shun their romance.
“All I wanna do is just fall in / I don’t wanna think about nothing / Everybody got so much to say, every time we push it away / Everyday, a new reason to stay / ‘Cause we got a bigger love,” Legend sings.
“Bigger Love” is the the title track from Legend’s new album slated to arrive later this year. He already issued two other singles: the dramatic “Actions” and the tear-jerker “Conversations in the Dark.”
The latter is manning a top 20 position on the urban adult contemporary radio chart.
