Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Kehlani addresses critics of her personal relationships on her new candidly-somber tune “Everybody Business.”
The video was released through Kehlani’s production company Honeyshot Productions and self-directed by Kehlani (a.k.a. Hyphy Williams), and the track features an interpolation of Pharrell Williams’ hit song “Frontin’.”
Shot in her own backyard, the video finds Kehlani commanding the audience’s attention, as she spills her thoughts on everyone being up in her business and the fact that she is unbothered.
“At my big old age / I can’t be fazed / But what you mistake as going insane / like I’m just movin’ all wild / fuckin’ all wild / runnin’ my mouth like I’m throwin’ it back,” the Oakland singer belts on the track.
“I wrote this song sitting on the floor in the room with @loshendrixx @gogrizzly @trinidadjamesgg @destinconrad. I remember saying the first line and all of us knowing it was going to be one of the ones,” Kehlani posted to Instagram following the song’s release.
She continued, “All the walking around and shutting doors that we kept at the beginning of the record for the ‘ambiance.’ Will never forget it. We all became family that week in Vegas. Love and miss all of you at the camp if you’re reading this.”
“Everybody Business” comes on the heels of a slew of singles released by the singer, including “Toxic,” “Valentine’s Day (Shameful),” and the YG-assisted “Konclusions.”
The new song is slated to appear on the Oakland-native’s upcoming project, which is currently without a release date.
