The reward is always greater than the struggle, as seen in Cocoa Sarai‘s 1950s-inspired video for “Big Dummy.”
Directed by Kai Martinez and herself, the visual opens up with Sarai arriving at a cleaning job before her show. The client happens to be an old acquaintance who’s surprised Sarai is still pursuing a music career.
While Sarai is met with obstacles such as a broken-down car on her way to a gig, she pushes through to make her performance. The visual ends in memory of Sarai’s late mother, talking about the moment she knew Sarai would be a singer.
“When I was writing the treatment, it was important that the visual captured what it really feels like to chase a dream that doesn’t pay right away. I wanted to be just as transparent in the visual as I was when I was writing the song,” Sarai stated.
