The return of Jorja Smith should earn her a rapturous welcome from jazz music enthusiasts. The British singer has released a new tune called “Kiss Me in The Morning,” which is featured on Netflix’s new music drama The Eddy.
Built around an elegant piano and saturated horns, this composition about morning trysts with a special man is fleshed out in improvised riffs and smooth harmonic phrasings.
“Now I’ve been loving what you’re giving / It never strays away from right / So if you kiss me in the morning / Boy you better call tonight,” she sings.
“Kiss Me In The Morning” is a nice introduction for what’s to come next from the promising act. Smith released her Burna Boy-assisted track “Be Honest” last summer.
The humid track was the first offering from Smith since March 2019, when she reimagined her Lost & Found record “Blue Lights” with Dosseh.
