From time to time, an artist takes us on an uncharted journey through their mind. UMI prepares to shower her devotees in transparency on her upcoming EP, Introspection, due June 21 via Keep Cool/RCA Records.
The title track and first single is a truthful glimpse inside UMI’s mind. Upheld by a swirling production, the emerging singer-songwriter sings,“Why I’m so afraid to fight back / I gotta a lot of shit to unpack / I never write back, I take it’s my bad / I shouldn’t take in / I try to go within myself.”
Speaking on her upcoming EP, UMI says, “Now more than ever, we are being asked to go within. I created this project with the intention to evoke introspection, both in myself and in the listener.
“Introspection is a reflection of my inner journey over the past year, embodying my growth. I’ve never been more honest in my writing, and the sonics of the project are a reflection of me, all of me.”
Leading up to “Introspection,” UMI released the earthly track “Mother.” She also shared a music video to accompany the ethereal tribute that she released in conjunction with Earth Day.
