Electrifying singer-songwriter Andra Day calls to “Make Your Troubles Go Away” in her new song.
On the somber track, Day recognizes the pain of her interlocutor and vows to give her all to eliminate any adversity or troubles they face.
“You’ve been looking for the quick fix / And it’s leaving you helpless / But I would give you all of me to make your troubles go away,” Day belts on the powerful chorus.
The Grammy-nominated artist discussed with Time Magazine how the song ties advocates for an end to police brutality and racial injustice in the United States.
“I just wanted to find the right time and place for it and this felt like the right time and place,” she explained.
“It was in the midst of COVID and we saw how COVID was disproportionately affecting our community and how much more underprivileged people were struggling with this virus and how it was affecting them here and in other nations around the world.”
The San Diego native says everything going on moved to release the song, which she has been sitting on for years, waiting until the right moment.
“So it was just like what can I do? I know I can’t give much. I’m not that big of a name. But what can I do with my platform,” she asked.
Proceeds from “Make Your Troubles Go Away” will go to the nonprofit organization GiveDirectly to support low-income families affected by COVID-19.
Day is set to appear on United We Sing: A GRAMMY Salute To The Unsung Heroes. Hosted by Harry Connick Jr., the two-hour special will broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. on June 21.
