Trey Songz weighs in on the unrest happening across the nation on his new song titled “2020 Riots: How Many Times.”
Rooted in piano backing and handclaps, the song sheds a light on racial injustice while making painful references to the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery.
His stance on the unjust issues that are affecting Black people today is as clear as the harrowing sound in his voice on the chorus of tough questions. Songz receives strong backing from a choir that amplifies the powerful message for peace and justice.
“You know you ain’t no better if you silent / You talking ‘bout the city on fire / Where your rage when my people die? / We ain’t slaves, let my people fly / Now it’s time, watch my people rise,” he sings.
Songz recently released the somber “Back Home” featuring Summer Walker in April. He made his Anticipation I and II mixtapes available on streaming platforms this spring.
