Grammy-nominated musician Terrace Martin has joined forces with cultural songwriting and production hitmakers Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder and Kamasi Washington to form the supergroup, Dinner Party.
With a self-titled debut project due on July 10 via Sounds of Crenshaw/EMPIRE, the fantastic four have recruited Chicago-bred producer-turned-songster Phoelix to lend his refined neo-soul to four out of the seven tracks.
“Freeze Tag,” the introductory single from Dinner Party, contains the soul-rooted sound of Phoelix and socially conscious lyrics that speak to the disturbing fear Black people, particularly Black men, face at this time with law enforcement.
“They told me put my hands up behind my head / I think you got the wrong one / I’m sick and tired of running (running) / I been searching where the love went (love went) / I been looking for a dove,” Phoelix sings.
Along with the new track, Dinner Party shared an accompanying visual. It features the masters of music in the studio creating the magic of “Freeze Tag.” Watch it below.
Ahead of the project announcement, Martin recently collaborated with Leon Bridges for his latest song “Sweeter.”
Back in 2019, Glasper dropped his star-studded mixtape F*ck Yo Feelings.
