Shay Lia is picking what’s left of the pedals from a wilted flower on her latest track “Love Me, Love Me Not.”
The smooth flowing tune is the second offering from her forthcoming EP that is slated to arrive in September.
“Love Me, Love Me Not” is layered in breathy erotic vocals that soar over an atmospheric Afrobeat. In the case of the context, Lia details a romance that keeps her feelings at bay. She wants to know whether she’ll ever get taken out of the friend zone or if she is just wasting her time.
“I’ll tell you how this thing can go down / You and me under the sun / Leaving go our fears and don’t, don’t play / And now I’m feeling for you / Can’t be left to fend out on my own,” she sings.
“If this song had a scent, it would be coconut oil mixed with vanilla,” Lia said in a statement about her new single. “I wanted it to feel intimate and soft. I was definitely exploratory with this song — I wanted my listeners to feel how sensuality, pleasure and melancholy can blend into the same song and share the experience of being friend-zoned from a woman’s perspective.”
Back in June, Lia debuted the untitled EP’s first single “All Up to You.” The EP will mark the follow-up project to last year’s Dangerous.
