Usher lets his mournful eyes do the talking in the official video for his new tune “I Cry.”
The focal point of the monochrome-toned visual is the Grammy winner’s glossy eyes that are filled with hurt and pain from the current civil unrest affecting Black communities due to police violence.
The clip also features stirring photography from the prominent Black photographer and humanitarian Gordon Parks.
“The video is in honor of the courage and bravery of the activists and organizations who are demanding a change to broken systems rooted in hundreds of years of racism,” Usher wrote in an Instagram post.
Usher recently performed the tearjerker at the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future television special. Revisit the performance here.
In June, Usher released the season two Songland-winning track “California” featuring Tyga. He also scored his fifth number one hit on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart for his Ella Mai-assisted duet “Don’t Waste Your Time.”
This feat cemented his name as the third artist in the 26-year history of the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart to have number ones in three different decades (the 2020s, 2010s and 2000s).
