R&B wins again. Kelly Rowland, Usher, and Vanessa Williams are co-starring in the new Hulu original film, Bad Hair.
Eager to make a name for herself in the music television industry in 1989, Elle Lorraine plays Anna Bludso, a young woman who decides to boost her career chances by getting a hair weave.
But what she doesn’t know is that her new hair-do will cause her more grief than good. In fact, she realizes the hair might have different plans for her career in the image-consumed culture.
Rowland joins the cast as Sandra, while Usher plays Germane D and Vanessa Williams stars as Zora. The backstory behind their characters in the Justin Simien-directed film hasn’t yet been fully revealed.
Lena Waithe, Laverne Cox, Blair Underwood, and MC Lyte, are also set to appear in the horror satire.
On the music front, Rowland served up a cup of “Coffee” with her first single of 2020.
As far as Usher, he collected his fifth number one hit on the Adult R&B Airplay chart with “Don’t Waste My Time.” He’s also working his newest track “I Cry,” which coincides with the Black Lives Matter movement.
Bad Hair is set to premiere on October 23 on Hulu. Watch the trailer below.
