The unrivaled and gifted voice of Nina Simone, the High Priestess of Soul, will be heard in remastered and audiophile-grade quality this fall. The top-tier albums Pastel Blues and I Put a Spell on You, both initially released in 1965 on Phillips Records, will be reissued on 180-gram vinyl on November 6, as part of Verve and Universal Music’s new audiophile vinyl reissue series Acoustic Sounds.
I Put a Spell on You is the second studio album by Simone on Phillips. At 12 tracks, Simone recreates the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins-title track and the anthemic “Feeling Good,” which has transcended across music genres and generations.
For Pastel Blues, the follow-up to the latter classic, Simone recorded all ten tracks with a small jazz band, including “Strange Fruit.”
According to the press release, both albums will be remastered by Ryan K. Smith and packaged by Stoughton Printing Co. in high-quality gatefold sleeves with tip-on jackets.
Last year, Simone’s “Mississippi Goddam” was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
