Stepping into Lauryn Hill’s shoes is no easy feat but Lianna La Havas skillfully found a comfy fit.
Performing for Phil Taggart’s Chillest Show, she performed a cover of “Ex-Factor” for BBC Radio 1 Piano Sessions. La Havas transformed the classic song into her own, as she evoked stirring emotions akin to the original. She shared on social media that “Ex-Factor” was the song that inspired her entire career.
La Havas also gave a sterling performance of her song, “Please Don’t Make Me Cry.” The melancholy energy from the piano player mixed with her beautifully somber vocals brings a compelling juxtaposition to the already doleful number.
The South London songbird released her eponymous third studio album in July.
