The Weeknd continues to make major moves. The Toronto native has been booked to perform at the Pepsi Halftime Show at Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021, in Tampa, Fla.
“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year,” The Weeknd said in a statement.
Jay-Z’s company Roc Nation collaborated with the NFL to book the performer, as part of their multi-year partnership formed in 2019.
“The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry,” Jay-Z said. “This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer.”
The Weeknd’s performance will happen a little over a month before he celebrates the 10th anniversary of his debut mixtape, House of Balloons.
On June 12, 2021, The Weeknd will kick off The After Hours Tour, which was postponed this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The tour will support his latest album of the same title, which includes his Billboard record-breaking hit single “Blinding Lights.”
