As the weather begins to warm up, RL returns with his new rhythmic single “Another Night.”
Co-written by RL and Brian ‘B Flat’ Cook, “Another Night” is a nostalgic jam that takes listeners back to the late ’70s.
“I want you here with me / Please don’t leave / I want you to stay here with me / Another night,” RL sings over a funky bass line.
In a statement to Rated R&B, RL described how “Another Night” was inspired by the Minneapolis sound.
“Sometimes when I’m having a bad day or in a bad space I close my eyes and imagine myself as a kid back in my grandma’s burgundy Buick Riviera. I’m in the backseat with the window cracked and the radio is on…I don’t really recall what’s on the radio, but it feels good,” he describes.
“When creating this record I imagined this creating the same feeling. I wanted to capture the feeling my idols used to give me (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis) when the songs they wrote and produced came on…That NEW Minneapolis sound.”
“Another Night” is RL’s first single since releasing his EP, The Letter J, in September 2020.
