Aaliyah’s Catalog Is Finally Coming to Streaming Platforms

Around this time last year, it was teased that Aaliyah’s beloved catalog, which had been sealed away from career-long fans, courtesy of her uncle and Blackground Records co-founder Barry Hankerson, would be going to streaming services in the near future. That time has finally come, according to the rebranded label’s official website.

In partnership with EMPIRE, five projects from the late global superstar’s discography will be available in various multimedia formats, starting with her 1996 sophomore album One in a Million. The Timbaland and Missy Elliott-helmed LP, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, will make its streaming debut on August 20.

Two weeks later, on September 3, the Romeo Must Die Soundtrack, featuring the chart-topper song “Try Again” and “I Don’t Wanna,” will be uploaded. Next, on September 10, her eponymous third and final album will be available for streaming, while the compilations I Care 4 U and Ultimate Aaliyah arrive on October 8.

For the longest, Aaliyah’s first album Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number was the only album available for streaming.

Aaliyah’s estate does not favor Hankerson’s sudden decision to release her music, sharing a statement regarding protecting her legacy on social media earlier this week. Find it below.
