Ashanti will be honored with the Lady of Soul Award at the 2021 Soul Train Awards.

The veteran has been a premier source of contemporary R&B for two decades, recording five proper albums, including her successful self-titled debut album, which entered her name into the Guinness Book of World Records for breakthrough first-week sales of 503,000 units.

Ashanti’s success over the years goes beyond music, taking an affinity for acting, with her latest role in the live-action film Honey Girls, out now.

In a press statement, Ashanti shared what it means to be considered for this prestigious accolade at this year’s ceremony.

“I’m honored to be recognized as this year’s ‘Lady of Soul’ honoree,” she said. “This is a full circle moment for me because I received the ‘Aretha Franklin Entertainer of the Year’ Award at the Lady of Soul Awards in 2002. As we commemorate 50 years of Soul Train, I’m proud to be a part of this legacy and to return to the Apollo to celebrate.”

Hosted by Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold, the 2021 Soul Train Awards airs live on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. EST.

Additional honors are on the horizon for Ashanti. She will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year, which happens to be perfect timing for the 20th anniversary of her award-winning debut LP.

Speaking of his groundbreaking work, Ashanti recently revealed that now that she owns her masters, she will re-record the 2002 material.
