Ashanti has received some exciting news this Black Music Month. The Grammy winner is part of the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s class of 2022, set to receive a star for her contributions to the music industry, after more than two decades of timeless hits and classics.

Ashanti shared her excitement about the star announcement in an Instagram post, writing to her over six million followers, “Wow… I’m speechless. Super humbled and super honored. I still can’t believe it. I’ve been inducted into the Hollywood walk of fame class of 2022!!! I’m actually getting a Star on the Hollywood walk of Fame!!!! 😆 Thank you guys so much for all of the love and continued support throughout the years. Thank you to my amazing team this wouldn’t be possible without all of you. Thank you to The Hollywood walk of Fame!!! God is amazing… and his timing is impeccable.”

Ashanti, who is familiar with being recognized and bestowed with high honors, will receive her star at the perfect time as next year is the 20th anniversary of her self-titled debut album.

Released in 2002, the LP broke Billboard history after amassing first week numbers of 503,000 copies, making it the largest opening debut sales by a female R&B artist. This record-setting feat earned Ashanti a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The LP won the inaugural Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 2003 Grammys, while the album’s hit single “Foolish” topped the Billboard Hot 100.

Following the release of her debut album, Ashanti has conquered acting and released four additional studio albums, three on a major label and another independently. Speaking of her indie journey, Ashanti recently shared the new song “2:35 (I Want You)” following her Verzuz with Keyshia Cole.

Ashanti is also set to star in the new live-action film Honey Girls.

Other class of 2022 honorees includes Regina King, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kenan Thompson, Black Eyed Peas, DJ Khaled, and the late Nipsey Hussle, to name a few. No actual ceremony dates have been announced yet.
