John Legend has had an impressive run at Columbia Records. Since joining the label home through a distribution deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music in 2004, the EGOT titleholder has multiple LPs, including his breakthrough 2004 debut album, Get Lifted and his most recent Bigger Love, the winner of Best R&B Album at this year’s Grammys Awards.
With various awards won and album and single certifications amassed while at Columbia Records, Legend is now looking forward to reaping the benefits of new success at Republic Records. He joins a high-profile roster that includes The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj, Lorde and Ariana Grande.
In a statement, Legend shared, “I am excited to partner with Republic Records in this next chapter of my career. Everyone at the label has been so wonderful to work with. I am thrilled to take this new artistic and creative journey with them and look forward to sharing new music with people soon.”
“There’s just no one like John Legend,” said Republic’s President of West Coast Creative Wendy Goldstein. “He’s the consummate 21st century superstar whose impact across culture and the world at large only continues to expand. We’re so honored to join forces with him as he launches this next era with some of his most powerful music yet.”
Legend seals his recent deal with a new holiday track, “You Deserve It All,” produced by Raphael Saadiq. Meghan Trainor shares a co-writing credit on this new classic where Legend splurges on all things good for his beloved interest, a mainstay on his nice list.
In October, Legend’s song “Wild” featuring Gary Clark, Jr. received gold certification from the RIAA.
