AWAL Recordings

Samm Henshaw‘s debut album, Untidy Soul, has reached its official destination. Out now via AWAL, the 16-track effort first set course with “Still Broke” and its supporting video, guiding the London native’s fan base to preferred streaming platforms.

Henshaw veered off on an exit and borrowed time from Tiana Major9, who appeared as the leading lady in the video of his follow-up single, “Grow.”

He returned ahead of Untidy Soul with “Chicken Wings,” the album’s current focus track. The accompanying video debuted just days before he toured North America for the first time.

The payoff to creating buzz for his first LP won him a late-night television spot on The Late Late Show with James Corden, where he performed his sophomore single.

To celebrate the release of Samm Henshaw’s Untidy Soul, lend your ears to these five must-listen tracks.

1. “8.16”

Production-wise, this highlight, where Henshaw sings with certitude, contains an indulgence of throwback soul worthy of a Best Traditional R&B Performance nomination at next year’s Grammys, if submitted.

2. “Still Broke” featuring Keyon Harrold

Introduced as the set’s first single, this sort of modern gospel track, which adds a trumpet utterance from Keyon Harrold, possesses a tone of desolation that accurately illustrates Henshaw’s life at that time.

3. “Take Time” featuring Tobe Nwigwe

Not every song on Henshaw’s first LP steps years back to old-school R&B. This layered groove that weds its topical nature and lyrics of thinking clearly on fast-moving romance is a prime example.

4. “Thoughts & Prayers”

From various angles, this mediating track, which steps in to offer solutions to universal wrongdoings, will have those who’ve once been onlookers rethinking how they insert their voices from now on.

5. “East Detroit”

This dreamy groover is driven by a wedge of pride standing in the way of Henshaw and his lady resolving a romantic conflict in the early morning hours.
