The anticipated journey to Yuna‘s next full-length album, Y5, has begun, and she plans to release a mother lode of music to get fans prepared. The first of five projects to be released this year has arrived, and it’s aptly titled Y1.

Consisting of four tracks, one of which is an intro, the set, claimed to be Yuna’s “most personal project to date,” runs for nearly ten minutes.

Track two, “Hello,” produced by Biako, is saturated with vibrant keys, a serene outdoors backdrop, and breathy vocals. She said this cut is penned in honor of a cherished cousin who died last year.

“I still feel her presence all the time [,] her laughter [,] her smile [,] her wisdom still lives in my memory,” wrote Yuna in an Instagram post.

Of the song “Pantone 17 13 30,” Yuna mentioned, “I wrote about being comfortable and confident in you[r] own skin, and finding someone who sees and appreciates you just the way you are.”

The project’s finale, “Cigarette,” is the longest track, and for a good reason. Yuna said it’s about musicians’ even shorter shelf life in today’s climate and how you can be replaced when execs search for the next you.

Yuna intertwined all three songs into a visual experience directed by Adam Sinclair. Watch it below.

Last year, Yuna collaborated with Charlie Heat for his Valentine’s Son project. She also teamed with Pink Sweat$ for “Don’t Blame It On Love.”

Yuna’s last album Rouge came out in 2019.
