According to Aaron Taylor, being busy is so outdated. The British singer makes this claim on his new single “Ebbs and Flows.”
Incorporating timeless string arrangements, stargazing celeste notes and dense vocals, Taylor creates a sublime groove that gives his listeners agency to foot-drag.
“I’m not doing it today / I’ma do it tomorrow / I’m not gonna get it in the way / I’ma go where the flow goes / If you’ve got something to say / Save it for another day,” Taylor sings.
About the new single, Taylor describes “Ebbs and Flows” as “a song that sums up how life was for me over lockdown.”
He adds, “I didn’t get up to all that much but also was OK with that. It’s about being content with the ups and downs of life and not breaking to the pressure of having to feel busy or purposeful.”
“Ebbs and Flows” arrives with an accompanying visual directed by Devon Kuziw. It features a low-energy Taylor practicing self-care around a cozy apartment.
Taylor’s new single “Ebbs and Flows” marks his first new music since releasing a deluxe edition of ICARUS, his 2020 debut album.
The expanded collection was released in late 2021. It featured gold edits of several songs, including “Wanna Be Close” featuring BEKA and the title track. Kuziw co-directed the visual for the latter track.
ICARUS was named one of Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020. Before Taylor made the year-end list, he chatted with Rated R&B in an extensive profile about the album, producing music with live instrumentation, artistic goals and much more.
“I’ve always joked that I want to win a Grammy one day. I think every musician would love that sort of wider recognition for the art they make. I’m definitely not an expectation to that. I also would love to reach more audiences and reach more ears through what I’m doing,” Taylor shared.
