Fours years after her Carolina Blues EP, Mikhala Jené‘s major-label debut project, The Missing Peace, arrives via Def Jam.
Jené co-wrote all the songs from The Missing Peace. Grammy-nominated super producer Deputy (Mack Wilds, Ari Lennox, Ne-Yo) produced most songs, except for the closer “When Bridges Burn,” which Brian Alexander Morgan produced (Usher, SWV, Tamar Braxton). She shared a performance video for the latter track.
The Missing Peace features the singles “All I Ever Wanted” and “Human Nature.” Jené’s recent single had an accompanying visual to debut at the time of its release.
The title of the EP has a few meanings to Jené. “First, being my journey to find peace and make peace with a lot of the heartbreak and disappointments I’ve experienced,” Jené exclusively tells Rated R&B via email.
“The second being my passion to plant seeds of self-accountability to choose peace instead of toxicity. A subject I feel is often missing from popular conversation. The last being my journey as a woman to activate the divine feminine with myself and others to heal whatever’s missing. Healing is never final — it’s forever. Overall, I strive to make music that can be a mirror of the human experience and inspire evolution.”
Ahead of releasing The Missing Peace, Jené teamed up with Rated R&B to premiere a companion short film.
“What I want fans to take away from this short film is the reality of just how easy it is to lose yourself in someone you love and the resentment that can develop over time. I became someone I couldn’t recognize because I was seeing myself through their eyes.”
