Tamar Braxton’s 2012 single “Love and War” has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for achieving one million equivalent sales units. It marks the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter’s first release to receive an award from the organization.
The heartfelt ballad, released in December 2012, led the album cycle for Braxton’s 2013 sophomore album, Love and War. It was co-written by Braxton, Darhyl “DJ” Camper, LaShawn Daniels and Makeba Riddick and produced by Camper.
“I’ve been in love before, and I’ve gotten my feelings hurt before but I’ve never experienced passion until I met Vince,” Braxton told Essence at the time of the single’s release. “I’ve never argued this much with a person, and I’ve never loved this hard. That’s what this song is about.”
“Love and War” debuted and peaked at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100, during the week of Dec. 22, 2012, after selling 84,000 units in its first week. It also entered No. 5 and No. 12 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs and Digital Song Sales charts, respectively.
The song stormed R&B airwaves, and in April 2013, it shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It stayed atop for nine weeks.
“Love and War” made Braxton a first-time Grammy nominee, picking up nominations at the 56th Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. The album, Love and War, netted a Best R&B Album consideration. She did not win any of the trophies.
Album five for Braxton is still in the works. She had at least one of the two albums she mentioned recorded. However, she recently revealed while celebrating the ninth anniversary of Love and War that it had disappeared.

Braxton wrote, “Trust me putting out new music hasn’t been easy for me- although an ENTIRE project was ready and then vanished into thin air 👀.”
She is currently back in album mode, recording what could be all-new material. “I want you all to be just a little bit more patient while I start over, put my heart and soul into my new found feelings, finally feeling free enough to sing about the old ones and create new, better, memories with you all,” Braxton added.
Braxton’s next album will serve as the follow-up to 2017’s Bluebird of Happiness. The album featured the remarkable single “My Man,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
