Nine months after releasing Heart On My Sleeve, Ella Mai returns with a deluxe edition of her sophomore album via 10 Summers/Interscope Records.
Heart On My Sleeve (Deluxe Edition) includes all the original songs from the standard album plus three new tracks: “2 O’Clock,” “This Is” and “Our Song.”
In “2 O’Clock,” Mai sings about relationship woes. Here, she ponders why she continues to deal with an unfaithful lover. “First, we make love, then we hardly speakin’ / Why we double back every other weekend? / Should have moved on, why do I maintain? / Sick of this love sh*t, so frustratin’,” Mai sings.
The penultimate track, “This Is,” hears Mai celebrating real love. “This is / The kinda love that keeps me up all night / This is What I wanna do for the rest of my life,” she sings.
Concluding with “Our Song,” Mai sets the mood for a night of lovemaking. “I like the way you pull my waist as you spell my name / Can you stand the rain all night?” Mai coos in the second verse.
Mai officially announced the Heart On My Sleeve (Deluxe Edition) last week. “The deluxe tracks are some of my favourite songs currently so I’m happy to be able to share them with the world. I get to bring new life to a body of work that is a year old but remains very close to my heart,” she wrote said.
This spring, Mai will headline her Heart On My Sleeve Tour. She will play in U.S. cities such as Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and more. Last year, she joined Mary J. Blige’s Good Morning Gorgeous Tour as a supporting act.
Mai’s collaboration with Babyface, “Keeps On Fallin’,” is nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 65th Grammy Awards. The star-studded ceremony airs live Sunday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
