R&B newcomer LAVI$H has released his debut EP, You Made a Big Mistake, via Def Jam Recordings.
The seven-track project includes his previously shared songs “We Make Sense” and “World In My Hands.”
“You Made A Big Mistake is the name of my debut EP, but in reality, the time for revenge has passed. My sentiment is that our time for war will never be over for them, but it’s over for me… it applies to so many areas of my life,” explains LAVI$H.
He adds, “This body of work is best illustrated by the words ‘success is the best revenge’, and I know my growth will haunt some people — but I think there comes a time when you realize it’s time to become timeless. My time is now and forever.”
The opening track, “World In My Hands,” is a mesmerizing ode to finding true love, while the subsequent track, “Big Mistake,” explores the heartache from an unrequited relationship.
“Even when you were toxic to me / Even when you were my dark energy / I told the world you treated me holy / Siad you held me when I was lonely,” he despondently sings.
On “Seventeen,” the Winnipeg, Canada, native reflects on a relationship from his adolescent years that left him heartbroken. “Gave you my friendship from the start / You still put needles in my heart,” he sings.
The penultimate “Piano Man” is an ode to LAVI$H’s friend and keys player Alec Switzman. “We came up together in Toronto. He’s amazing. We party, we go out, but at the end of the night, when it’s time to work, those people we were partying with only ever want to come out for the celebration part of the night, and the one person who’s always there for me is Alec,” LAVI$H told Apple Music.
He continued, “He’s there for the parties, but he’s always there for the work, too. I’m letting the world know that Alec is not just one of my producers, this is somebody that I’m truly thankful for—this guy helped build and mold the artist I am today.”
