Aaliyah has achieved two new certifications from the Recording Association of America (RIAA).

Her iconic 1996 single “One in a Million,” the title track to her sophomore album, has been certified gold for selling more than 500,000 equivalent units.

The Timbaland-produced classic spent six weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. It’s the second song from One in a Million to receive an award.

“The One I Gave My Heart To” was certified gold in October 1997. Before that, the album was certified 2x multi-platinum in June 1997 for selling over two million copies.

Aaliyah’s 1998 song “Are You That Somebody” has also received a gold award. It was released as the lead single from the Dr. Dolittle soundtrack.

“Are You That Somebody” was produced by Timbaland, who co-wrote the track with Static Major.

It scored Aaliyah her first Grammy nomination at the 41st Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

On Billboard, the song spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and peaked at No. 21 on the Hot 100.

Aaliyah’s new RIAA certifications come nearly two years after receiving a platinum plaque for her posthumous vocals on Chris Brown‘s “Don’t Think They Know.”

In December 2021, Aaliyah’s label Blackground Records released a posthumous single, “Poison,” featuring The Weeknd. It peaked at No. 22 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

“Poison” was dubbed as the lead single from her album, Unstoppable, which was initially set to release in January 2022 on Blackground Records 2.0/EMPIRE. However, it has yet to see the light.

The posthumous album was reportedly set to feature Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg, Future and more.
