Halle’s debut single “Angel” is a top five hit. The Ron “Neff-U” Feemster-produced track enters at No. 2 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart during the week of Aug. 19.
It’s Halle’s highest appearance on this chart, which according to Billboard, tallies “the week’s most popular downloaded songs, ranked by sales data as compiled by Luminate.”
Halle previously charted, as one half of Chloe x Halle, in 2020, with “Forgive Me” and “Do It.” The latter, certified gold by the RIAA, reached No. 6, while the former debuted and peaked at No. 7.
Elsewhere this week, “Angel” opens at No. 6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart; and No. 23 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
“Angel,” which reached No. 1 on iTunes’ R&B Songs chart, has garnered over 3.4 million streams on Spotify since it was released Aug. 4 via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records.

Moreover, the official video has more than 6.9 million views on YouTube. Wendy Morgan directed the breathtaking visual for the piano ballad.
“This song for me is so very special and near and dear to my heart. With everything I’ve gone through the past 3-4 years, suddenly finding myself in this bubble of all these eyes and new opinions, it was easy for me to feel doubt in myself and who I was,” Halle previously said about her new single.
She added, “This song for me was my climb out of those feelings, a mantra and promise to myself that the work I’m doing here on earth matters and that I matter. I wanted to be able to embrace and be proud of myself and who I am naturally through and through. I hope other brown and Black girls and everyone in general feel embraced, respected, and inspired hearing the words of this song.”
“Angel” is the proper beginning of the solo era for Halle. She previously tested the waters as a soloist with “Part of Your World,” a song taken from The Little Mermaid, in which she starred as Ariel.
Another film is on the horizon for Halle. She is set to portray a young Nettie in the upcoming remake of The Color Purple, which hits theaters Christmas day (Dec. 25).
