UMI is back. The rising singer and songwriter has unveiled her brand new single “happy im,” which she co-wrote alongside V-Ron.
This soothing track by UMI showcases her practice of allowing in romance, letting go of control and going with the flow to create something meaningful with someone special.
UMI says she wrote her new single “at a time where I felt myself running from love—the type that can be felt in many ways; love for a dream, family, career, a place, or a person.”
She added, “I wrote this song to remind myself, and those who listen, that it’s okay to be happy—it’s what we came here to experience. And oftentimes, when we allow ourselves to stop thinking so hard about it, we let it in.”
UMI accompanied her new single with a self-directed music video. It can be watched below.
“Happy im” is UMI’s first musical release of the year. It’s her first single since her debut album, Forest in the City, released May 27, 2022, on Keep Cool/RCA Records.
Forest in the City had no guest appearances and included previously-shared singles “Moonlit Room” and “Sorry.” She later released a visual for “Say I’m Ur Luv,” which was directed by Joce.
“I know existing in the city can be hard sometimes. existing in this world can be hard. full of noise. the urge to get away and be in nature is so universal, but not always possible. feeling this myself, I wanted to create an album that could be a sonic oasis,” UMI previously wrote on Instagram about her debut album’s inspiration.
She continued, “So that no matter where u are in the city, listening can connect you back to the natural world. to remind you of the peace that exists within. may this album be medicine for you.”
UMI toured Forest in the City in North America last spring and summer, and in the UK and Europe later that fall. Currently, she is playing a string of tour dates in Asia.
This September, UMI is set to perform at H.E.R.’s Lights on Festival at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California.
