Tyrese’s latest single, “Love Transaction,” has debuted on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart (week of Oct. 7).
The Marvin Gaye-inspired song opens at No. 30 on the airplay chart, led by October London’s hit “Back to Your Place.”
“Love Transaction” was released independently on Aug. 15 via Tyrese’s Voltron Records. He produced the soul-stirring tune with Brandon “B.A.M.” Hodge and co-wrote it with Davion Farris and Jerell Moore.
On the track, Tyrese reflects on a past relationship and wonders if they were ever in love or if it was merely a transactional exchange.
Tyrese sings: “Tried to leave, in and out of court / Trying to take home what I’ve been working for / Can you justify what you say the baby needs / Do you want to make sure that she has everything / 20,000 is in child support / We both know who the money’s for / We had our family ties and you went and cut me loose.”
“Love Transaction” is the follow-up to “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me,” released in February. The song, also produced by Hodge, peaked at No. 2 on the Adult R&B Airplay and spent 28 weeks on the chart.
Both songs will appear on Tyrese’s upcoming album, Beautiful Pain. The album was set to drop this year. However, Tyrese recently confirmed that it has been postponed to 2024.

Tyrese first announced Beautiful Pain in 2022. He explained that the album was inspired by his three-year marriage. “Carrying the unbearable pain of this divorce has put me in a dark place and the only way I could get this energy off of me was to confront it,” he explained.
Beautiful Pain will follow Tyrese’s 2015 album, Black Rose. The album debuted album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B Albums charts.
The album included his hit single “Shame,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. The Warryn Campbell-produced tune landed Tyrese two Grammy nominations for Best R&B Song and Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 58th Grammy Awards.
