While not exactly new to the R&B pool of nominations at the Grammys, Sean “Diddy” Combs has received his first nomination as a lead artist in one of the two R&B album categories.

The Love Album: Off The Grid, released independently on the mogul’s Love Records, is up for Best Progressive R&B Album nomination at the 66th Grammy Awards.

This nomination marks Diddy’s first consideration for a Grammy in eight years, following his 2016 nod for “All Day,” a Kanye West song that credits him as one of many producers.

Diddy’s first R&B nomination in 26 years comes after producing Mariah Carey’s Best R&B Song nominee “Honey,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks in 1998.

The most considerable feat of Diddy’s Love Album: Off The Grid is earning him his second R&B album nomination. He was last nominated for his significant contribution to Mary J. Blige’s iconic 1994 album, My Life.

The album was nominated for Best R&B Album in 1996, which was only the second year this award was given. That year, TLC won the award for their diamond-certified second album, CrazySexyCool.

The Love Album: Off The Grid was released Sept. 15 on Love Records. It features appearances from The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, Babyface, John Legend, Dawn Richard and Kalenna (Dirty Money), The-Dream, H.E.R., and Jazmine Sullivan, among many others.

A top five debut on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, the LP yielded the top 10 hit “Another One Of Me,” which features The Weeknd, 21 Savage and French Montana. It reached No. 4 on Rap Digital Song Sales and No. 6 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales.

“Another One Of Me” also debuted and peaked at No. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Diddy his 36th entry overall.

Six more tracks from Off The Grid entered the Hot R&B Songs chart in the album’s opening week. The highest debut was “Stay Long” featuring Summer Walker at No. 13.

After releasing the standard album digitally, Diddy added three extra tracks, including two of his previously released songs: “Gotta Move On” featuring Bryson Tiller and the PARTYNEXTDOOR-assisted “Sex In The Porsche.”

The refreshed set also contains his featured appearance on the “Creepin’ (Remix)” by Metro Boomin with 21 Savage and The Weeknd.

Diddy’s alliance with Tiller earned him his first No. 1 single on R&B radio and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in late 2022. It topped the last list for two weeks.

Diddy recently dropped the official visual for the Teyana Taylor-fronted “Closer To God.” Taylor also directed the video.
