Elle Varner is heading back on the road this spring. The Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter has announced dates for Elle Varner: Unplugged.
The mini tour kicks off April 7 at City Winery in Chicago. Varner will make additional stops at City Winery locations in the U.S., including St. Louis, Atlanta and Philadelphia. The tour concludes April 23 in New York City.
The intimate show will include live renditions of fan favorites, plus “many you’ve never heard!” She will also share the story behind how these songs came to fruition.
It’s been nearly five years since Varner put out new music. In 2019, she released her project, Ellevation, via Entertainment One. It was the follow-up to Varner’s critically acclaimed debut album, Perfectly Imperfect, released in 2012 on RCA Records.
Ellevation was supposed to tide over fans until Varner’s sophomore album, which has yet to be released. “I would say that it’s like an appetizer and an entree. The first couple of [singles] I’m releasing, you get kind of a preview of where I’m going musically,” Varner told Rated R&B in 2019.
In a March 2023 interview with Rated R&B, Varner mentioned that her next album is titled S.E.L.F. (Some Energy Lasts Forever). “This was my way of saying, ‘I am who I am. I said what I said. And you’re going to know me whether I’m here or not. I’ve made my claim,” said Varner. “It’s just very powerful. I feel like it’s going to inspire and uplift a lot of people who need to speak up and speak out.”
In the following month, Varner took to social media to hint at a challenge she’s facing with releasing music.
“How much longer do y’all think I should keep fighting to put out music? Another year? Another 5? A lifetime?? When do you think enough is enough?” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
