Netflix has announced its original film Mea Culpa, starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight, Bird Box), premieres Feb. 23 at 3 a.m. ET. in the U.S.
The legal drama, written and directed by Tyler Perry, also stars Sean Sagar (Fate: The Winx Saga, The Gentlemen), Nick Sagar (The Princess Switch, The Haves and the Have Nots) and RonReaco Lee (Let’s Stay Together, Survivor’s Remorse).
Per the film’s logline, “A criminal defense attorney (Kelly Rowland) agrees to defend a seductive artist (Trevante Rhodes) accused of murdering his girlfriend. But when desire takes hold, her big case takes a dangerous turn.”
“This idea came to me because I love all of those older thrillers from the ’80s and ’90s,” Perry told Tudum, the official companion site to Netflix. “It was fun to explore the best and worst of humanity through the genre of an exotic thriller.”
Netflix has unveiled the official two-minute trailer, which can be viewed below.
The streaming service first announced the film in February 2023. “Get ready for a crazy sexy thriller,” Perry wrote in an Instagram caption for the film’s announcement.
Rowland has been in her acting bag lately. She starred in Netflix’s original movie The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022), alongside Marlon Wayans and Priah Ferguson.
Later that year, she starred in Paramount+’s original movie Fantasy Football with Marsai Martin and Omari Hardwick, and CBS’ comedy special Pickled.
