Justin Timberlake has returned with his sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was, via RCA Records.
The 18-track offering, which includes the singles “Selfish” and “Drown,” contains features from *NYSNC, Tobe Nwigwe and Fireboy DML.
During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Timberlake revealed that he recorded nearly 100 songs for the project, which he narrowed down significantly. JT told Clarkson: “When I started piecing the album together and picking my favorites, I would play it for people close to me, and they would say, ‘Oh, this, this sounds like every part of you of every album.”
Timberlake continued, “And having this moment in my life and sort of looking back on everything that it’s been…sort of accepting all of it and being excited about all of it, learning from all of it, applying that to moving forward in your life. There’s also a couple of songs that bookend the album that are a little more introspective. [The album] is just about arriving at this place right now in my life as an artist, a husband, as a father, as a human. And, I’m just really excited about what the future holds.”

Timberlake launched his new album era in January with “Selfish,” which debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Timberlake produced the song with Louis Bell and Cirkut, who also helped him write it, along with Theron Thomas and Amy Allen.
On Feb. 23, Timberlake released the second single, “Drown,” which was co-written by Grammy-nominated singer Kenyon Dixon, who contributed to 10 tracks on the album.
Everything I Thought It Was is the follow-up to 2018’s Man of the Woods, which dropped two days before his headlining Super Bowl LII Halftime Show performance. Man of the Woods debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with 293,000 equivalent units sold in the first week.
Timberlake will support his latest album on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, kicking off April 29 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The massive tour will visit major North American cities, such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York, before hitting Europe and the U.K. in July. Timberlake will launch the second North American leg in October and will wrap up Dec. 16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
