Music icon Dionne Warwick and the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, will be inducted into the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The ceremony for music’s highest honor will stream live on Disney+ Saturday, Oct. 19, from the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The induction ceremony will air on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu Sunday, Oct. 20.
Blige will be inducted into the performer category, along with Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest.
Blige went to social media to express her gratitude. “Beyond Grateful!!!!!! This is incredible!!! God always has the final say!!!! Thank you to my fans all over the world!!!! Tears of Joy!!!! @rockhall #rockhall2024,” Blige wrote in an Instagram post.
The performer category honors “artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll.”
Warwick will be honored with the Musical Excellence Award, which is “given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.” She will joined by fellow inductees Jimmy Buffett, MC5, and Norman Whitfield.
“Rock & Roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”
Per the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, “To be eligible, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.”
Details about tickets to the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will be shared at a later date.
